SES Published Article: ISO 9001:2015 Begins With Leadership

news_tablet.jpgThe ISO 9001:2015 Standard requires increased management involvement and leadership within the new and extended requirements.

With these new requirements in mind, we wanted to communicate our thoughts and suggestions on the need for increased discussion of the quality group and the leadership team. To be successful, meaningful involvement and learning from the company quality group for top management will be required in the early stages of this transition.

In the current issue of the American Society for Quality Internal Audit Division Newsletter, an article titled “ISO 9001:2015 Begins With Leadership” written by  Walter Tighe, SES President highlights the need for this integration, the identification of leadership requirements, including why the quality group of any organization cannot define and execute these new ISO 9001:2015 Standard requirements on their own.

This published article can be found on our Company Website Homepage Here. We would appreciate any feedback from our readers regarding the article content, and your thoughts as to what you foresee as issues to your organizations transitioning success.

Breakthrough Improvement

Breakthroughs are improvements, but in one giant leap – a major step change. Breakthroughs tend to arise out of organizational strategic and planned change, and include performance and review systems.

The newly released ISO 9001:2015 standard, now requires strategic and planned change, a major step change will be faced by many business leaders. Now, more than previous, leaders are required to demonstrate their involvement and engagement with the business quality management system.  Such as:

  1. Understanding the needs, expectations, and the requirements of interested parties that are relevant to the QMS. Monitor and review information about these parties and their relevant requirements.
  2. Ensure that the quality policy and quality objectives are established for the QMS and are compatible with the context of and strategic direction of the organization.
  3. Ensure the integration of the QMS requirements into the organization’s business processes.

Other requirements require leaders to demonstrate strategic operations thinking such as:

  1. Promoting awareness of the process and risk thinking based approach
  2. Assuring the QMS achieves its intended results
  3. Supporting other relevant management roles to demonstrate their leadership, and
  4. Ensuring that QMS changes are carried out in a planned manner.

This change in focus on Leadership in ISO 9001:2015 will require top management to demonstrate a visible understanding of the business context, addressing risks and opportunities within the context of the organization and greater accountability tied to closer links between the management system and product/service quality.

Now is the time to step back and take a Holistic View of Your Organizational Effectiveness.

What signifies Organizational Breakthrough Improvement?
We consider it a dynamic, decisive movement to a new higher level of business performance.  In today’s highly competitive marketplace, organizations  often  fail to perform due to the lack of a systematic approach in the design, integration, and alignment of its strategic business efforts and leadership decision making.
Understanding and acting on the needs and expectations of internal and external parties requires utilizing an evidence-based business model  for achieving breakthrough improvement and scalable profit growth.

ASQ 24th Annual Audit Division Conference

Sustaining Edge Solutions was a Gold Sponsor & Exhibitor at this well attended conference in October at the Peppermill Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada.  It was cool, but we found no snow in Reno or our trip to beautiful Lake Tahoe prior to the conference.

Walter Tighe, SES President and Dennis Stambaugh, SES Senior Consultant at ASQ Audit Division Conference, our exhibitor booth.

The conference keynote speaker was Peter Holtmann, President & Chief Executive Officer Exemplar Global (Formerly RABQSA). Peter’s subject focused on the need to attract and entice new professionals and aspiring auditors into current ranks. A study was conducted collating data from certified auditing professionals from around the world on current and future needs.  Many global working auditors are from the baby-boom generation and moving to retirement.  He cited a number of changes in place and coming that will drive the recruitment and mentoring of future auditors.
Thanks to all who visited our booth!  We made numerous contacts with many quality and operations professionals.  A great value and superb conference.  See you next year in Memphis!!
